About the author

Alastair Cairns Hull

Alastair qualified as an architect and spent early years on projects in Cambridge, Nepal and Saudi Arabia. However, his urge to travel overtook his life. He has spent the past five decades travelling and exploring the countries of south Central Asia.

His business as an importer and merchant took him to many remote bazaars in unforgiving areas, buying the colourful, unusual and unexpected.

His desire to seek and understand the origins, cultural significance of all the items he found led him to close relationships and friendships with remote tribal people.

He has written two successful books on Tribal Rugs published by Thames and Hudson.

He lives with his wife in their restored steam mill in a village near Ely in Cambridgeshire.

His two daughters were brought up with the desire to travel. One lives in Barcelona, and one near Amsterdam.
